Savage Mode – 21 Savage & Metro Boomin – 7.4

Savage Mode is the 2016 collaboration tape between super producer Metro Boomin and a still rising 21 Savage. For anyone familiar with some of the more recent Metro/Savage collaborations such as the fantastic Without Warning tape with Offset and the mixed bag of Metro’s not All Heroes project, in which Savage was the standout performer. Then this earlier tape will come as no surprise to many that it’s a short, simplistic but effective eerie project, that does its best to highlight the main strengths of its two main players. To this day, three years after this tape released, considering the plethora of top artist’s Metro has worked with, I think Savage has been the artist that always steps up and delivers his best work. The connection between the two has been very strong for years now. In this tape, 21’s murderous bars are heavy and deep. Metro’s production mirror’s 21’s dark vibe perfectly, neither does it overpower his low-key vocal delivery. Although it may sound a bit one-note as the tracks play out and the repetitive hooks start to become monotonous, this is still a good project for hardcore Savage fans from a year where trap blossomed.
